“FedMentors” Educates and Inspires Next-Generation Government Leaders

Microsoft Corporation (Redmond, WA) -

In the next five years or so, not only will a significant number of Federal government executives be retiring, but an astonishing 50% of the overall Federal workforce will be as well. More troubling are anecdotes about government agencies struggling to attract new talent to replace their current staffs. And, as new hires do enter the Federal workforce to replace all the retirees, there will be a huge need to “ramp them up” and teach them how to be successful in their newfound roles.

Thus, the idea for FedMentors was born, as FedScoop CEO Goldy Kamali tells it in a new blog post. She writes, “I have learned about the importance of having good mentors first hand, having benefited from the guidance and advice of several smart and caring mentors that have helped guide my career path over the years. I thought it would be great if we could help the new federal workforce by creating a platform for today’s leaders to share career best practices and management advice and tips with the next generation of leaders.”

Early feedback from the initially chosen FedMentors has been very positive, reports Kamali. FedMentors is a way for FedScoop - a government IT media company, a one stop news source, and the government IT community’s platform for education and collaboration - to give back to its community of government thought leaders.

The new initiative will feature a “FedMentor of the Week” on the new FedMentors.com website. FedScoop will also be encouraging agencies to engage in a “National FedMentors Day,” on Friday, April 22, for the federal government community to celebrate and connect with one another about career and leadership related issues. FedScoop will conclude 2011 with an awards ceremony celebrating the best FedMentors in late November.
